St. Paul Youth Services receives NBA Foundation Grant to Support Black Youth

St. Paul Youth Services’ YouthPowerMN℠ Leadership Institute offers an organizing hub where Black youth are compensated for their intellectual capital, lived experiences, and contributions to improve our communities.

11/29/2023 Saint Paul Minnesota – St. Paul Youth Services (SPYS), a leader in youth services that unapologetically envisions a loving community where Black youth are safe to live fully and free both individually and within community, is one of the newest NBA Foundation grantees. 

Dedicated to creating employment and career advancement opportunities for young Black men and women, the NBA Foundation has selected SPYS’ YouthPowerMN℠ Leadership Institute as a recipient in the newest round of grantees.

SPYS’ YouthPowerMN℠ Leadership Institute partners with Black youth to address systemic barriers to equity across education, economic opportunity, entrepreneurship, and asset building, while directly investing in Black youth as entrepreneurs and skilled leaders.

SPYS’ YouthPowerMN℠ has the motto is Kids Changing Systems vs. Systems Changing Kids®. It is THE most promising and proportionate approach to dismantling systemic racism and that by engaging youth in shaping and promoting solutions a largely untested yet effective and strategic approach to change.

“YouthPowerMN℠ is literally Black Youth building power to impact the state, the country, and the world through critical thinking, creative problem-solving, and practical solutions,” said Dr. Tracine Asberry, Executive Director at St. Paul Youth Services. “SPYS is working with Black youth to build a movement focused on Youth Leadership Development, Youth Social Entrepreneurship, and Creating Youth-Centric Organizations.
